So What is Healthy?

So this blog is all about healthy lifestyles....but what in the world do I mean by "healthy"?

There are many different definitions but one commonly used is the definition by World Health Organization (WHO). WHO defines health as "a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity"(http://www.who.int/about/definition/en/print.html).

Might I reinforce the words "COMPLETE...and NOT merely the absence of disease..." WOW! That's a high standard. And I thought I was doing alright. But this has just made me realize that we are all on a continuous spectrum of healthiness. We might be healthy currently, but we can always become healthier, this process never stops. It is a daily battle against ~oh those yummy Oreos!

This concept reminded me of our relationship with God. I mean Christianity doesn't just stop after you believe, you have to commit daily to fellowship and obedience with God (I am referring to this passage from the bible "Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed-- not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence-- continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose" Philippians 2:12-13 NIV)

Now looking back at WHO's definition of health, I realized they have physical, mental and social, but how about the spiritual component? You know, the part that considers your eternal wellness and destination?

So I ask you these three questions: Are you healthy? How can you become healthier? And most importantly how much are you pursuing God daily?

Hope you have a healthy day!

Anna
